XCELLSiS Phase 5 heavy-duty fuel cell engines will be in operation in 30 EvoBus Citaros starting in early 2003 in 10 cities in Western Europe. XCELLSiS is also looking to supply engines for the CaFCP's bus program, which will feature 20 North American fuel cell buses operating at Sunline Transit and AC Transit (Oakland, California) starting in 2003. Texaco Energy Systems Inc. (TESI) and Energy Conversion Devices, Inc. today announced the formation of Texaco Ovonic Hydrogen Systems L.L.C., a 50-50 joint venture to further develop and advance the commercialization of ECD's technology to store hydrogen in metal hydrides. This hydrogen storage system is unique when compared to other forms of hydrogen storage, which rely upon compression or liquid hydrogen technology. Syntroleum Corporation (Nasdaq: SYNM) announced today that it has produced and shipped synthetic fuel made to JP-5 specifications, under a purchase order from the Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Division, under sponsorship from US Navy Office of Naval Research (ONR). According to Jiri Nor, president, the stacks were manufactured in the European fuel cell facility in Benesov, Czech Republic, as part of the current project which will lead to a full demonstration of Astris' fuel cell powerplant in a golf cart next spring. This system will also be suitable for a variety of small vehicles, he said. The company is presently expanding its fuel cell laboratory in Mississauga to permit fully computerized testing of fuel cell systems and their components.
